How to Create an Engaging
Homepage Design
There is no doubt that the homepage is the most important page from your entire site. It’s often the first thing about your business that potential customers see, the cover of your company’s book that you’re bound to be judged by.
How should my site look like? It’s a question that lies in the mind of any person who wants to launch their business online or who wants a simple presence on the web. More important than what you think the company website should look like, is what the design and functionality customers actually want from it.
Nowadays, information becomes more and more numerous, time passes faster and people don’t spend much time on a single page anymore. For any company, the homepage is like a virtual door. If the visitor doesn’t like what he sees, the first impulse will be to hit the ‘Back’ button and return to Google in order to search another website!
In order to provide the best experience for the users, a homepage has to:
1. Answer the following questions:
– Who are you?
– What do you do?
– What could the visitor do on the website?
2. Have a responsive design and incredibly important, to be mobile friendly!
3. Engage the visitors with simple, but effective visuals. Minimalism is often a sign of a modern homepage that communicates quickly and provides great mobile experience. Simple, yet powerful. ;)
4. Include CTAs (call-to action). You should draw the visitor further into the site, to take the next step and become more engaged with your company.
5. Load fast, or else you risk loosing some customers. These days, people are becoming less tolerant with a slow website.
Here are a few examples of good homepage designs, to give you a bit of inspiration:
Slack – Makes it very clear what visitors should do next.
Dropbox – Simple, with effective CTAs.
Uber – Effectively combines the two worlds: get a drive or become a driver.
Airbnb – Easy search box and great user experience.
Evernote – Does a great job by including many potential messages into a few key benefits.
Start creating the best homepage for your website! If you need help, we’re right here! :D
